Galba is a metalworking company with thirty years’ experience in high-precision chip removal on a subcontracting basis. The company has a department specialising in the machining of light alloys for industrial vehicles, automotive and marine transmissions, a department for machining grey and spheroidal cast iron for hydraulic distributors, and a department that processes special steels for ship engines and transmissions.

Galba opted for the INTEGRA+ package, which provides precise and detailed information in real time from the machine, with a product that is easy to use by field operators, is very easy to install and has very short start-up times (a few days for installation, cable verification and operator training) thanks to the use of SIEMENSTM PLC technology.

Installation of the INTEGRA+ package achieved the following important results:

• All in-house PCs can display in real time machine status, performance and state of progress in production, the result being control of all the machines, immediate visibility of what they are making and how efficiently, and a quicker response to unexpected events.

• Integration with the management system for automatic importing of production orders and automatic exporting of final production figures and times for each order, thereby avoiding transcription errors and manual reporting, which are always the cause of errors and inaccuracies. The result is accurate production planning and a precise calculation of costs for each article and job order.

• Automatic and precise recording of times, OK items and rejects, thus avoiding continuous amendments due to errors and inaccuracies, as happened previously with manual data collection.

• Shorter downtimes thanks to an accurate identification of root causes of stoppages. 

• Multiple querying options allowing periodic analysis of performance, efficiency, OEE, rejects and operator activities in order to highlight all possible areas of improvement and assess the validity of the corrective and preventive actions implemented.
