Arvedi tubi Acciaio

Arvedi Tubi Acciaio (ATA) is a member of the Arvedi Group and was established in 1973 to make welded carbon steel pipes. It focuses on special applications using modern technology to provide the market with the upmost flexibility and a very high standard of quality. The company currently produces 400,000 tonnes per year for the main market sectors.

STAIN’s  MES project for ATA, which was introduced together with SAP/R3 implementation, covers all areas of production, including advanced production monitoring, departmental logistics, tracking, in-line quality control (SPC), despatch and test laboratory management. STAIN’s MES solution provided the following major achievements:

• Slitter and welding and finishing line status available in real time on all company PCs, allowing immediate targeted interventions on work in progress.

• Simple, easy-to-use interface with field operators, using PLC technology.

• Close integration with the SAP/R3 ERP system for production order progress, stock valuation per  batch (coils, strips and bundles) and automatic compiling of a list of bundles for each consignment, with automatic TD issuance.

• Automatic identification of coils, strips and bundles at all stages of the process, allowing real-time inventorying of stocks of raw materials, finished products and unfinished products.

• Exact costing of each production order with automatic relaying to the management system of production, tooling and downtimes, consumption of raw materials and weight of each pipe bundle produced.

• Product non-conformity management throughout the production process with tracking of corrective actions and remedying of non-conformities.

• Rapid production of reports and graphs for all departmental requirements.

• Crosscheck of raw materials to allocate to stocks and those specified on the order.

• Computerization of Control Plans and automatic acquisition of SPC measurements for product and process certification.

• Product tracking and heat traceability, starting from single coils, strips and pipe bundles to allow quick, easy and accurate identification of the heat to which each product belongs, to meet specific customer or statistical analysis requirements.

• Materials status management to prevent handling errors and despatch of non-conforming materials to the customer.

• Automation of despatch and weighing activities, with automatic compiling of the packing-list and real-time conformity crosscheck of quantities ordered and quantities loaded by the storeman.

• Real-time visibility of stocks of coils, strips and bundles for each batch in each warehouse cell, avoiding lengthy and tiring manual searches.

• Automatic issuance of TDs and other documentation, eliminating manual operations at the weighbridge.

• Automation of mechanical and spectrometry tests in the laboratory.
